Decline in Employee Engagement Continues…

For the first time in a decade, global research by HR consulting firm Hewitt Associates shows that the number of organisations with decreasing employee Engagement exceeds those with increasing Engagement.

Figures from Hewitt Associates over the last quarter suggest that the gap is continuing to widen further with immediate action needed by employers across New Zealand.

"Post the recession, employee Engagement has emerged as a business critical issue for organisations globally and it is particularly relevant in New Zealand" comments Tim Powell, Managing Director of Hewitt Associates, ANZ. "With the labour market starting to strengthen, it is crucial that businesses focus on the Engagement of their employees to ensure they retain their top talent and workforce resources."

"The issue of employee Engagement cannot be ignored, regardless of organisation size. It directly impacts workforce productivity as well as workforce attraction and retention," continues Powell.

"Although we have seen Engagement widely embraced as a leading organisational metric by larger enterprises, there have been few Engagement products tailored to the budget and priorities of small and medium sized businesses."
