Attached is a letter from the Ombudsman, stating that the Securities Commission is refusing to provide a copy of the original "anonymous" complaint that sparked the statutory management of, as well as the current investigation(s) into Allan Hubbard's affairs.
This is now the third time the Securities Commission has refused to reveal this information.
Given that the complaint was "anonymous" (according to the Securities Commission), and that the Securities Commission maintains that it can and does act on anonymous complaints, their argument that releasing this complaint would deter others from complaining in future simply does not hold water.
The Securities Commission goes on to say that releasing the complaint would reveal the identity of the complainant. How can this be so if the complaint was anonymous?
Someone is clearly not being honest here, and it appears to be someone in the Securities Commission.
Given the cost to taxpayers of this debacle so far, we urge the media to pressure the government to come clean with this type of information.
The Prime Minister and Minister of Finance also keep stating that "no other credible offer was on the table" for SCF, forcing the government to choose receivership - and yet they have repeatedly refused calls to reveal the details of the offers they had
This lack of transparency has fostered a breeding ground of speculation, damaging Allan Hubbard's reputation beyond repair, despite no verifiable evidence put forward to support the allegations made about him in the media whatsoever.
It is time the government started coming clean with the information it is withholding about this situation.
