Gosche not up to speed on speeding tickets
"Transport Minister Mark Gosche was two years behind the times with his recent announcement of a supposedly "new" policy on speeding tickets, says National's Brian Neeson.
"Last week Mr Gosche announced that: 'from next month, anyone caught exceeding the speed limit by 10km/h or more will get a speeding ticket'.
"But what he was peddling as a new initiative is actually two years old. The 10km/h rule was approved by the Police Executive Council in August 1998 meeting and sent in a directive to all staff on 2 November 1998, thus becoming police policy.
"It was also published, in its entirety, in the March 1999 issue of the New Zealand Driver magazine.
"If selling retreaded ideas as his own is the best Mr Gosche can do, perhaps he should consider a career as a used-car salesman.
