Minister must meet parties over health strike

Minister must meet parties over health strike

National Health Spokesperson Dr Lynda Scott is calling on Health Minister Annette King to meet with the parties involved in the Auckland radiographers’ strike.

“The Health Minister cannot sit by and wait for a tragedy to happen. Patients’ lives are being put at risk and the Minister must take some responsibility for this, and an epidemic of health strikes around the corner.

“This industrial dispute is set to go on and on, with radiographers now talking about a third strike. Counties-Manukau radiographers may also strike, and senior doctors at Timaru have threatened strike action.

“Patients needing care and attention are the ones who suffer. The Minister is responsible because it is the large deficits and capped spending by her hand that is causing these disputes. She must meet the parties and see first hand what her mismanagement of the health system is doing,” Dr Scott said.
