Statement on Awatere Huata Story

Immediate Release: Saturday December 28, 2002
Statement on Awatere Huata Story

ACT New Zealand Leader Richard Prebble has been in contact today with the Awatere Huata family today regarding the Dominion Post's allegations of wrongdoing.

"I have spoken to Donna, who informs me that she will make a statement this afternoon. I understand that given the serious allegations in the newspaper today she is seeking further legal advice.

"In previous conversations with Donna, I have been repeatedly assured that neither she nor her family have done any wrongdoing. The newspaper states that the police are investigating the allegations, a development I regard as positive, because it will result in a rapid conclusion.

"As this is now a police matter, it is not appropriate for me to make any further comment today," Mr Prebble said.
