Comment on initial family violence discussions
The National Party says it is approaching the initial discussions about a cross-party forum on family violence with an open mind.
National's Families spokeswoman Judith Collins, and National's Associate Welfare spokeswoman Anne Tolley attended a meeting in Wellington tonight on behalf of National.
"The talks tonight were of a general, preliminary nature. We are approaching them in good faith and trust that the Labour Government and other parties will do the same.
"National is acutely aware there has been a tremendous amount of talking on this issue before, and that a frustrated public want to see progress. We are determined to deliver.
"We expect to meet again in the near future, and await the release of two Government-sponsored reports that may helpfully feed in to a process for setting the agenda," said Ms Collins and Mrs Tolley.
