Breast cancer sufferers say enough is enough
National’s Associate Health spokeswoman Dr Jackie Blue applauds breast cancer sufferers and their supporters for marching on Parliament once again to seek funding for Herceptin for early stage breast cancer.
“Today’s rally has been about how breast cancer devastates and rips families apart, and about the anger, sadness and frustration women and their families feel at being denied access to this drug.
“It is about saying enough is enough,” says Dr Blue, a former breast physician.
“Kiwi women have an almost 30% greater chance than Australian women of dying of breast cancer.
“Twenty-two of the 30 OECD countries are now funding Herceptin for early breast cancer – but not New Zealand.
“Breast cancer sufferers and their supporters in Parliament, the health sector and the community will continue to fight for this life-saving drug.”
