Tame And Rangi Granted Parole But Reports
into Operation 8 Are Long Overdue
MP for Waiariki Te Ururoa Flavell is pleased to with the outcome for Te Rangikaiwhiria Kemara who yesterday, was granted parole.
“I am sure whānau across Ngāti Rereahu will be pleased that Te Rangikaiwhiria has been granted parole until the Supreme Court hears their case,” said Te Ururoa Flavell.
“It is interesting to see now, after almost 6 years, that the only four people convicted from that fateful day will all be free in their communities after having parole boards decide that they pose no risk to society,” added Flavell. “What does that say about the overreaction and bad decisions that were made at that time?”
“Now it is time for the Independent Police Conduct Authority and the Human Rights Commission to release their reports into Police actions on the 15 October 2007.”
“In the interests of accountability and transparency, the public deserve to have the full information about what really went on with Operation 8. Both of these reports are long overdue.”
