Building Policy Good For New Home Buyers
The National Party’s building and construction policies deserve a tick for their aim of bringing greater assurance to new home buyers that the structure they want meets the standard they expect says the Building Industry Federation.
Chief Executive Bruce Kohn said today that the policies announced yesterday significantly increase new home buyer protection and will contribute to more professionalism across the industry.
“Mandatory written contracts for all building work costing over $20,000, and disclosure requirements for builders to provide proof of their skills, qualifications, licensing status and track record should lift confidence in the market place.
“Rules that Principal Building Contractors must fix defects in their work within 12 months add further to the consumer protection element of the policy package.”
He said that should these policies be implemented early in the next Parliamentary term, as signalled by the Minister of Building and Construction, Maurice Williamson, they should contribute to bringing about a long awaited upturn in residential construction.
