TMP Business Consulting Assists Youth Employment

TMP Business Consulting Assists Youth Employment Project

TMP Worldwide Business Consulting – part of the TMP Worldwide group – has been recently appointed Project Consultant for the Youth Employment Project being conducted in partnership between the NZ Business Council for Sustainable Development (NZBCSD) and the Mayor’s Taskforce for Jobs.

The project objective is to “Lead NZ Business in their role of ensuring current employment or training for all young New Zealanders by 2005”.

According to the 2001 Census data (Statistics NZ), the unemployment rate for young people (aged 15-24) in New Zealand is more than double that of the national unemployment rate.

General Manager TMP Worldwide Business Consulting, Mr Tony Teesdale says this is an important project that will benefit business and the community as a whole.

NZBCSD chairperson Steven Tindall (Founder of The Warehouse Group) said " If the goals of the Mayors Taskforce and this project are able to be met, it will make for a much better New Zealand. The members of the Business Council felt that this was one area we could contribute because we have a large number of members who employ an awful lot of people and have job opportunities going forward.

We hope to achieve two things: We could find ourselves some very good people for the future of our businesses, and at the same time we could be helping on a very worthwhile project that has tremendous goals."

The project aims to deliver a concise NZ industry guide on the ‘why’ and ‘how’ for stimulating youth employment. It will also establish a website to present the industry guide and enable learning by sharing.

“Our role will be to work closely with the NZBCSD member companies to manage and co-ordinate the project activities, “ Mr Teesdale says.

Member companies at the forefront of this project include; The Warehouse, Urgent Couriers, Money Matters, City Care, Fonterra and Milburn Cement.

“TMP’s involvement with the project complements its existing sponsorship of TMP Workchoice Day”, says Mr Teesdale

The project starts on 1 May 2002 when the Business Council and TMP meet to finalise the timeframe and action plan for the project. “Following that kick-off meeting we will really get started on the project and our aim is to have the industry guide produced and working early next year”, added Mr Teesdale.

Mr Teesdale will undertake the position of account director for the project, and is joined by two colleagues David Munro and Susan Verner.
