Queen Charlotte Sound: Stolen yacht located

The 39' yacht 'Inchwood' valued at $95,000 was stolen from Ngakuta Bay, Queen Charlotte Sound some time from Thursday the 30th August 2012.

While police were making enquiries into the theft of the yacht information was received that a suspicious yacht was in the vicinity of Robertson Point at the entrance of Port Underwood.

The police launch Lady Elizabeth IV left Wellington at 1.30 pm on Sunday 2nd September 2012 and traveled to Port Underwood. Police identified the suspicious yacht as being the stolen yacht 'Inchwood' and boarded it. A 30 year old man who was known to police and also had warrants for his arrest was apprehended.

Police also believe that the apprehended man is responsible for other offences committed in the Marlborough Sounds since the yacht was stolen.

The yacht was safely delivered to a mooring for the Christchurch owners to uplift.
