Top Sites for September 2006 - Employment Category

Top Sites for September 2006 - Employment Category

Attached is a ranking of the top New Zealand websites for September from Nielsen//NetRatings' Market Intelligence service for the Employment category.

The Household Labour Force Survey results released by Statistics New Zealand for June 2006 quarter indicates employment has increased by 22,000 to 2,129,000. Unemployment figures have decreased by 0.3% to 3.6% for the same quarter 2006, according to the report. More New Zealanders are in employment and more New Zealanders are searching for employment online. According to the Nielsen//NetRatings Market Intelligence service the employment category had over 749,101 visitors in September, up 6% compared to the previous month and up 64% to the same month a year ago.

The top site in the Employment Category continues to be seek.co.nz, which has long dominated this category. In September Seek had 381,260 visitors, a new record for the site. Seek’s users that month read over 9.8 million pages on the site and stayed for an average of 7 minutes per visit.

The recent launch of Trade Me’s employment channel (trademe.co.nz/jobs) has generated a lot of activity in this category and although only in the market for its second month, Trade Me Jobs appears to have created an immediate impact on online job seekers, with 238,502 visitors to the site in September. Of interest is that a lot of these visitors appear to have been added to the Employment category because of Trade Me Jobs’ launch – ie. they were not necessarily visiting other employment sites. For example, in September Trade Me Jobs only had 12% overlap of visitors with Seek and 9% with each of search4jobs.co.nz and Jobstuff.

Searching for jobs online is slightly skewed towards females as the Employment category had 59% female visitors in September. Going online to look for jobs seems to be an activity mainly done from home; 56% of Market Intelligence Employment category visitors were accessing the internet from home. trademe.co.nz/jobs visitors are most likely to access the site from home (68%), while search4jobs.nzherald.co.nz are the least likely to be doing so (48%).

These rankings can be customised to the needs of your publications and articles. Additional information outlining data on unique visitors, page impressions, visit durations, and demographics of visitors can also be forwarded for incorporation into articles.
