Labour Must Fix Substandard Roads
Labour Must Fix Substandard Roads
Thursday 27 Dec 2001 Penny Webster Press Releases -- Transport
Summer traffic queues and holiday carnage reinforce the need
for the Government to fix New Zealand's motorway systems,
ACT Transport Spokesman MP Penny Webster said today.
"These days, our cars are designed to go at high speeds. Yet we're forced to drive on substandard roads.
"The ridiculous time-consuming and expensive RMA process is costing lives. We rue our high road toll, yet Labour wastes our money on buying railways and Air New Zealand.
"The average New Zealander goes on holiday by car, and many are towing boats and trailers.
"We need some commonsense.
"Public-private partnerships and toll roads are the obvious answer.
"Instead, we're stuck with another summer of road-works that don't achieve a thing, delays that don't get us anywhere, and deaths that could - and should - have been avoided," Mrs Webster said.
