Buyers jumping hurdles to view upmarket equestrian property

The luxury home and equestrian centre owned by one of New Zealand’s foremost show jumping horse and rider trainers has been placed on the market for sale.

The 3.7-hectare block near the Waikato township of Cambridge belongs to Penny Stevenson, whose horses have represented New Zealand at both Olympic Games and world championship levels. Ms Stevenson has also been chairperson of the selection panel for New Zealand’s equestrian teams at Olympic and world championship levels.

Stevenson’s plush 288 square metre architecturally designed three-bedroom/two-bathroom/two lounge curved-roof home, with extensive windows from most rooms that look out onto the lawn, post & rail fences and adjoining equine amenities.

The property at 5 Hunters Lane is being marketed for sale by tender through Bayleys Hamilton, with tenders closing on March 12. Salesperson Angela Finnigan said that over the past 12 years, Ms Stevenson had hosted numerous parties and functions on the substantial deck area overlooking the park-like surroundings.



“The scale and quality of the equestrian centre infrastructure means the most likely buyer of this home is someone with a strong association to the sport – either through their children, or with a view to continuing equestrian-based activities on the property,” Ms Finnigan said.

“The kitchen and lounge are created within a double-height space to maximise the light flow, combining seamlessly with a large indoor/outdoor area.”

The flat-terrain property is located within the C2 residential growth cell in the Waipa District Council Plan – which allows for superb lifestyle and equestrian activities, or for potential subdivision. The home and equestrian centre are accessed down a tree-lined private right-of-way through electric gates.
