Finally - A Broadway Musical With Balls!
New Zealand Premier – Showing at SKYCITY Theatre,
SKYCITY
24 September - 9 October
GOLF: The Musical tees off in New Zealand on 24th September, SKYCITY Theatre, SKYCITY for two weeks of musical mayhem.
The all-star cast of four, including Mark Hadlow, Ray Woolf, TV3’s Russell Dixon and the stunning Lisa Lorrell perform 18 songs and comic skits about the grand old sport of golf.
Described as “Hilarious” by the New York Times and an “amiable, madcap review” by the New Yorker, GOLF: the musical covers everything from the top ten reasons to write a show about golf, to the lament of the great lady golfer. There’s a gospel revival song about Tiger Woods and the show encourages audience participation in the form of a putting competition with the chance to win a full set of golf clubs!
"A good walk spoiled," is how Mark Twain described the game of golf.
Golf is exasperating for some, exciting for others; boring, elitist and a sport that makes men dress funny. All of this is freely admitted, and then reveled in!
Whether you like the sport or not the seasoned talents of director Robert Alderton, musical director Claire Caldwell and the incredibly talented cast are sure to leave you wanting more.
More than 35 million Americans play golf and numbers in New Zealand have reached nearly half a million! The sport’s rising popularity can be seen in the creation of golfing television programs, magazines, pro shops, driving ranges and more youngsters taking a swing at the ball than ever before.
Michael Campbell’s recent win at the US Open is sure to add intrigue to this unique mix of sport, theatre and music.
ING and Jaguar are proud to be teaming up with Kishon Productions to produce the New Zealand production of GOLF: The Musical. Kishon Productions Managing Director Aaron Davis recently returned to New Zealand after several years of performing in professional musicals overseas. Davis says he wants to raise New Zealand musical theatre to a level of international significance.
“New Zealand possesses some of the world’s finest talent in the performing arts, many who have successful careers in Sydney, London and New York. I want to start creating opportunities for New Zealand talent in New Zealand.”
Don’t miss GOLF: The Musical, it’s the perfect excuse to get out and play a round!
