Game and Forest Condemns threats to Kapiti Island Wildlife
The Game and Forest Foundation today condemned the alleged release of possums on to Kapiti Island.
“Kapiti Island, its plants and animals are special to all New Zealanders and any action or threat of action that could jeopardise their long term future is totally outrageous and irresponsible” said Garry Ottmann, Executive Director of the Game and Forest Foundation.
“I am not aware of the group mentioned but I have requested copies of the letters from Forest and Bird so that we can give any assistance in identifying the writer/s. Should the threats or actions alleged turn out to be genuine, Game and Forest would help in catching those responsible and expect the full weight of the law to come down on them” said Garry Ottmann
Forest and Bird have been quick to point the finger at hunters but equally the letters could be from someone attempting to discredit the hunting public.
Game and Forest does not regard possums as game animals and support efforts at getting possums numbers down to as low as possible.
Game and Forest is an independent non-profit
