Grant Opportunity For Children's Groups

Grant Opportunity For Children's Groups

Those organisations working to support the rights of children in New Zealand have until April 15 to apply to Save the Children for a small grants fund.

Initiatives that offer lasting benefits to children and young people perhaps by offering, educational, community or developmental opportunities may be eligible for grants of up to $10,000.

Save the children Small Grants funds are awarded twice a year, in April and September.

"The funds are awarded to applicants who can show us that their plans and ideas have been developed specifically to create a positive change in children's lives," says John Bowis, Executive Director of Save the Children New Zealand.

Previously successful initiatives have included projects to reduce the incidence of young people offending, mentoring programmes, anti-racism programmes and youth participation workshops.

"Projects should focus on child participation, child protection and child poverty and, where appropriate, they should actively involve children. For example, project ideas can be identified, developed and implemented by or with children and young people."

Save the Children's SGF committee made up of young people and professionals in child and youth development will consider funding research, project development, start-up costs, training and appropriate resources, conferences and meetings.

Office equipment, on-going project costs, leisure activities, medical expenses, retrospective funding, projects taking place outside New Zealand and those undertaken by national and local government are not covered in the funding.

Application forms and further information are available on Save the Children New Zealand's website: www.savethechildren.org.nz/new_zealand/nz_programme/small_grants_fund/main.html.

Applicants are notified of funding decisions within six weeks of the closing date.
