ID Dunedin Fashion Week 2008 Date Changes: 26 Feb - 1 March

The flow on effect from the recent announcement of dates for Melbourne's Grand Prix has meant a change of dates for Dunedin ID Fashion Week and the L'Oreal Melbourne's Fashion Festival.

The new dates for ID Dunedin Fashion Week are Tuesday 26 February to Saturday 1 March, which means it will be held one week earlier than planned.

Organising Committee member Margo Barton said the decision had been made because the original planned dates of 4-8 March clashed with the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival which would now be held from 2 - 7 March 2008 and the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI) conference in Melbourne which had changed its dates to 8-11 March.

The L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival dates were changed this week when it was discovered they clashed with the 2008 Formula One Australia Grand Prix (GP) which will be held in Melbourne from 13th to 17th March 2008.

As a result of this, the International Foundation of Fashion Technology Institutes (IFFTI) conference in Melbourne had also been forced to change its date for its conference in order to avoid problems with accommodation and flight bookings and to take advantage of the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival.

"IFFTI is the major international fashion education conference which is rarely held in our region. Most Otago Polytechnic fashion staff will be attending, and it's an important networking opportunity to develop collaborations for Otago Polytechnic and to attract new fashion schools to submit designs for the ID Dunedin Fashion Emerging Designer Awards," she said.

Ms Barton said the committee hoped the change of dates would not create an ongoing domino effect for other events in Dunedin.

"Keeping the original dates of 4-8 March would have resulted in a significant impact on ID Dunedin Fashion Week, including a reduction in the number of entries to the Emerging Designer Awards, and the inability of many fashion school staff to be able to contribute to our Fashion Week," she said. "We felt this would have had too big an impact on the event so the dates had to change."
