Hamilton City Council decides not to pursue V8 claim

Council decides not to pursue V8 claim

22 November 2011

Hamilton City Council has decided against pursuing an investigation at this time into a claim against a former Chief Executive for payments connected to the city's hosting of the V8 Supercars event.

The matter was considered in a public excluded Council meeting yesterday (21 November) where advice was received from Council’s solicitors.

This follows a recent report from Audit New Zealand into the running of the V8 races which criticised Council processes and decision making, including some of the payments authorised by former Chief Executive Michael Redman.

Council gave careful consideration to a full range of factors, including the significant cost of further investigation into any potential claim, and the further significant costs involved in running what would be complex and time consuming litigation.

On balance it agreed at this time that it would not be in the best interests of the Hamilton community or Council to invest further council resources into pursuing a potential claim.
